Naming a Church: Part 3

NAC3So with a healthy amount of research in hand, and after praying and fasting, and talking to people we trusted, everything came to the point of the entire process that we had been waiting for. There was nothing left but to decide the name of our new church plant and commit to that name, brand, and direction.

Our vision, “so the people of the South Bay will fully experience life in Christ,” had given us clarity in choosing the six names we researched.

Our values, or as we called them, our “Obsessions” had fleshed out what the vision meant for us as we lead people to “fully experience life in Christ.”

And now our time interacting with people around our target area about the name gave us a framework to know how the people we wanted to reach responded to the names we felt would carry that vision.

So God gave us peace, and last August we committed to the name, LifeCity Church. For us, this name expresses our desire to see people fully experience life in Christ. It also speaks of a future city where all God’s family will be gathered: a city full of new life in Christ. And perhaps more importantly in terms of the concept we wanted our name to communicate, it tells our city that God is more concerned with where you are going, rather than where you’ve been.

Later this week, we’ll begin sharing our logo, website, Facebook page, and Twitter. We’ll also share more about our vision, Obsessions, and sending agency. You may also begin to notice a few changes around here on the layout of johnmarkum.com itself. So stay tuned to the blog!

We can’t wait to connect with all of you as we get to share how God wants to use LifeCity Church, and the faithfulness of people like you, to make an impact for His Kingdom in the South Bay. Stay tuned, and share our posts on your Twitter and/or Facebook!

If you missed the process we took to choose the name of our church plant see part 1, and part 2.

Blessings,

Pastor John

  1. Thanks for your great input on “naming”. We are considering a name change from Truckee Lutheran Presbyterian Church (TLPC). We are an aging community and desperately need younger folks so a new namewe feel would be more inviting.
